Search Tips
All the materials on Monastic Matrix are interlinked. For example, a community described in the Monasticon may have links to documents in the Cartularium or images in Figurae; items in the Commentaria also have bibliographical records in the Bibliographia; and so on.
You can search the entire Monastic Matrix site from this page or you can visit a particular section of the site and search only that section. Search here for any words and phrases, separated by commas. The search engine will find documents containing as many of your search terms as possible, ranked so that the documents most relevant to your query are presented first.
If you enter search terms in lowercase, the site will search for words in both lower and upper case.
For example, if you enter the word
next
the site will find matches for Next, next, and NeXT.
If you enter search term including uppercase letters, only exact matches will result.
For example, a query for
NeXT
will only match NeXT.
You can require or exclude terms using the operators '+' (require) and '-' (exclude).
For example, if you want to search for the name
Elizabeth
but you do not want the site to search for someone named
Elizabeth Smith
you must enter search terms
Elizabeth -Smith.
